  • Please be aware: The mountains of Kerry are not high by international standards, and severe snow and ice conditions are rare, but nevertheless they should not be underestimated as they can be unforgiving for even the most experienced and well-prepared walkers. Severe weather conditions can set in in minutes (particularly given the proximity of the area to the Atlantic seaboard) and navigation can be difficult at the best of times due to a scarcity of obvious paths and tracks. Do not venture into the mountains unless you are fully equipped and prepared!
  • Guided tours can be arranged!

Walking to Carrauntoohil

The choice is yours......

Due to our unique location in the heart of the Hag’s glen there are a multitude of walking routes for all ages and abilities starting at our front door, we offer direct access to the mountains. Guided walks are also available.

We are merely a 10-minute drive from the famous Ring of Kerry, a stunning coastal and countryside drive that forms one of the most scenic sections of the Wild Atlantic Way. It holds an ample amount of activities for everyone.

We are 20 mins from Killarney town which is full of heritage, activities and entertainment suited for everyone. Its National Park holds beautiful scenic walks and cycles, and the perfect place for a picnic. Ross Castle includes tours of the 15th century castle tower and garden grounds. In addition to this, Muckross House and Farm also possess guided tours of the magnificent gardens, the old farm houses and the 19th century lakeside mansion. Independent walks are allowed on the garden grounds of Muckross House, Killarney National Park and around the town of Killarney should you prefer.

Gap of Dunloe

We are 10mins from The Gap of Dunloe, a spectacular glaciated, narrow mountain pass where a popular form of transport for tourists is the horse-drawn trap, a cart where up to four occupants sit facing each other. There are also riding ponies for hire. Bikes can also be rented in Killarney. The road through The Gap down to Lord Brandon's Cottage in the Black Valley is about 11 kilometers long from where a boat trip can be made through the lakes of Killarney to Ross castle (or vice versa).

Nestled at the entrance to the Gap of Dunloe is the world-famous Kate Kearney's Cottage, a 150-year-old family-run establishment. After a day's sightseeing, you can stop by for the famous pub grub and a drink in Kate’s pub with its open fire. In the restaurant, a full a la carte menu is provided and groups, small functions, individual diners and couples are catered for. There’s also a craft shop here which stocks a wide range of local gifts and produce. At Kate Kearney's traditional Irish Night dinner, traditional music and costumed dancers are hosted.

Killarney National Park

If golf is your thing there are several well-known golf courses nearby, including Beaufort Golf Course, the Killarney Golf and Fishing Club which held the Irish open on four occasions and Killorglin Golf Club. A little further along the Ring of Kerry you will find Dooks Golf Links and Waterville Golf Links (the number 1 Golf Links in Ireland).

On a hot summer’s day, why not visit Rossbeigh beach. It’s only a short drive from us, past Glenbeigh village. Take a walk along the endless sandy beaches and accompanying this is a playground which can provide hours of fun for the children. Additionally, just on the road to Rossbeigh beach, there is a horse trekking centre, Burke’s Beach Riding. They provide horse treks through the beautiful countryside or along the sandy shore. Not far from us in Glencar is the Cappanlea Outdoor Education Centre, the perfect place for a family day out together. There are various activities to take part it; kayaking, canoeing, hill walking, rock climbing, orienteering, etc.
